Dad’s day off. Trip to Camperdown wildlife park.

Hey guys! A busy spell over here with us so I thought I’d share a little of what we have been up to. On Thursday, Euan had a day off so we were up and out at 7am ,ready to adventure on a day trip down to Dundee and hit the animal park at Camper down.

DCIM100GOPROG0040237.JPGI’d not been for years and we have rare opportunities to do such activities during the week with Euan working, it’s just too busy. Sure to make the most of a sunny day, we set about with a plan and followed through.

We arrived in Dundee early, before 9am, and took advantage of a wee browse around the local shopping centre. Or at least I did, I left with a second set of ear lobe piercings.. talk about inpromptu. I blame a mum life crisis if that’s such a thing? Anyway, we grabbed picnic style snacks, some food for Eleanor and headed off to the park around 11AM.

The sun was out, the park was busy and the animals were out to play for the best part. We had the gopro set and ready to go, to capture any moments from the day. Waltzing around the park with Eleanor in her dad’s arms, watching all of the animals in their daily life was quite nice. A chilled out day going at a pace of our own and making me ever grateful for the little family that I call my own and everyday life.

GOPR0243_1532027445953_high.JPGEleanor wasn’t fully aware of all that was going on but she did enjoy watching some of the wild birds and the bears having a bath in the sun. I was quite impressed with the park, small and nothing crazy going on but enough to make the most of your time there. With it being a nice day, we took a slow jaunt around and stopped to look for the wild animals.

Come 2pm we decided to head back home and walk our dog Fern into the centre to grab an ice cream. It is of course so crucial to make the most of the nice weather back here when we have it and ice cream is never a bad idea.

A scoop of blueberry panna cotta for Euan and cookies n cream for Eleanor and I to share. My baby loves ice cream, in fact, her favourite word right now seems to be “Mmm”  a foodie in the making with a definite love for anything sweet. Definitely takes after myself with the food department for now, so long as she picks up a love for pizza and Hallomi we are onto a winner.

Back home, we sat down to a glass of wine and some chill time before preparing for the working day ahead. It’s nice to take a day off together and utilise as a family day now and again as time flies so fast, these moments are precious and not to be wasted. Family is the best part of my life and to take time out together makes my heart so fuzzy and full, I just love it.

G0030235_1532027445953_high.JPGBesides, what is better than watching your Husband (to be) play and interact with your baby? It’s just too bloody special.

I hope that you guys are all good. Does anyone have any ideas of family activities with a small child? Particularly outdoors, as we just love to get up and get out.

Helping local business. A home photography session.

I recently stumbled across a photographer on the local Facebook blog page for Aberdeen City who was looking to take some photographs to help build her portfolio.

The post instantly caught my eye and before I knew it I had sent the woman a message to request photographs of my baby girl, now six months. We had some photographs back when Eleanor was two weeks old so it would be great to have some at six months as a memoir of this stage in her life.

Time is so precious right now, we wanted to capture Eleanor in her essence as much as possible and in as many ways as possible. Her wee face changes each day and her personality grows along with every little change.

The development is so rapid to catch Eleanor at every stage and every milestone can all be quite the challenge to keep up. We thought with some semi professional photographs in and around the home,we could mark the six month period with some true prints of candid moments. An opportunity much too special to refuse.

I was a little anxious about this as the photographs take place in the home, with us just having the one bedroom, I feared there would be a lack of space, however, the photographer had mentioned this would be no issue. We arranged for a Sunday morning session to be booked and set a date to meet.

The session lasted around forty minutes and we all felt so at ease. I wasn’t aware, I had to get in the photographs too, had I known, I’d have wore something more elaborate than a grey tshirt and sweat pants! Too bad. The main focus was on Eleanor and any photographs I was featured in, I found a way to hide away.

The photographer (Eni) was so lovely and happy to be around us in our family home setting, she made sure we were all at ease. We got some shots in the lounge and the bedroom with only the aid of natural light. Eleanor was in a great mood with high spirits which made for an awful lot of great posing.

I found being at home rather than a studio was much less posed, more candid and caught us in our essence. The photographs caught moments, precious moments, not just standard posing which can be typical to studio photography.

Below, I’ll share some of the shots which we now have copies of to treasure forever and mark the six month milestone. We now have a special momento to keep forever of this stage and reminisce. We are so thankful for the shots and how we were captured together at home. The images turned out to be perfect and we can look to have some prints framed of the favoured images.

I was sceptical with this just being an amateur shoot and how our prints would turn out to be, more over anything we just wanted to help someone out who was looking to build up a portfolio, I didn’t expect anything so powerful.

I didn’t expect so much from the shoot as it was just for portfolio building but I was intrigued to see the outcome nonetheless. I was shocked when I received access to the photograhs and just how well that they had turned out. The images were beautiful and caught every inch of Eleanor perfectly. Euan and I scrolled through the Dropbox files which such delight.

There is very little more precious in life than your own child and to see them grow is something so special I can’t quite comprehend. You fall in love over again each day and find a whole new appreciation for life and this little soul to call your own.

The early Sunday morning session of photography at home has left we with lasting memories and lasting images which I can hold close. On days that I feel down or not so great about how life is going, you know, one of THOSE days?

I can look back on this day and reflect. I now have a constant memory to remind me to take a deep breath on and appreciate a the little moments in life. I will be forever grateful to Eni for the  images that she has created and presented my family with.

We set the date!

Well, I must say that the year has been kind to us. The most special year I have had yet, the year we began the family adventure, the year we got engaged, the year life as we knew it changed forever. I have taken only the good from 2017 and will carry it with me for the rest of my life. It’s not every year you have your first child or get engaged!

To keep the trend going and end the year with a bang, we decided to take the plunge, set the date and book our wedding ceremony. We done this is all of two days may I add, with a baby in tow. Productivity at its finest.

With having the perfect date in mind, we already had a good idea of when we would wed, we just didn’t have the year in place. The fourth of September was our date of choice, already a special day for us as it is both our anniversary and the date of which we took Eleanor to have her birth registered. We thought to extend the day with another happy memory and add to it the day that we are to become husband and wife.

Euan called the office on Friday morning to check that the date was available for the coming year, 2018. They had the date free and we had the choice of time slot to attend. With it being a Tuesday, a funny day to marry.. we know, we went with an early afternoon slot. As the local registrar is a central location we wanted a time that it wouldn’t be rush hour so to speak and guests would have easy access to the venue.

Our ceremony will be small with only family in attendance. Euans parents and their partners, Euan’s grandparents and my parents. My side of the family will be outnumbered however, we decided that we didn’t want siblings or extended family at the ceremony. Small and sweet. Our witnesses will be our birth Mother’s.

To follow, we have booked a small room that can host up to twenty guests at the Carmelite in Aberdeen. We have a room from 5pm and will be greeted with some arrival drinks and finger foods for our wedding party before further guests arrive for the evening meal which will be a sit down three course job with drinks to follow for those who feel like having a few. We are aware it is a school night and people may want to leave promptly after the meal, we don’t expect a wild night by any accord. I don’t think I’d hack that to be honest.

Something I previously hadn’t planned on having however with the extended guests, we decided it would be best to host a meal where we can make special memories with our nearest and dearest. We have chosen specific finger foods and a set menu that will cater for everyone with a few minor adjustments to me carried out.

The room will be filled with just twenty of our guests with three children included. Though quite small, we will have just one rounded table for eating with guests and have decided to decorate the room with different chairs and a variety of colours and fabrics.

The room will have a quirky setting with lot’s of florals for the added bohemian vibes. I’m a big fan of anything floral and have even ordered myself a flower crown for the day rather than the classic veil.

I’m not giving too much away though, there are a lot of ideas out there and I’m still mulling over decor and styles without getting over the top or stepping into a territory of expense.

My dress is all set, it’s not a wedding dress by no accord and it is certainly not designer not expensive, but it’s a dress that was gifted to me several years ago that I have been desperate to wear, it just was never suited to a day trip to the shops or visiting my Mother. It’s a special dress that I have kept in my wardrobe with the tags still on waiting patient for the perfect occasion.

Come closer to the time, I’ll share a sneak preview with you all. Don’t worry. I’d love to share all with you bunch but I have to keep some level of suspense.

We did stick to our guns and keep it as a small affair as we have no need for a big day, all we wanted was a simple yet elegant day to cherish for years to come. I can’t believe when I marry I will be holding my baby girls hand the whole way through! What a privilege, I am certainly one lucky lady and a very proud Mother.

We have found wedding bands and sized ourselves up, with a click of a button we can have them ordered to suit. I have the fancy diamond band as an engagement ring, with a wedding band I have went as basic as you can go I want nothing more than a slim yet timeless platinum band to mark my commitment.

The invites are set to go and the venues are booked, now we just need to pull it all together and we are well on our way to celebrating our big day. There’s a lot of work going on with us behind the scenes and much planning to do – much more than I expected. The notebook is out, the ideas are in and I’m never off of etsy as I try to source ideas and material for the day.

Keep your eyes peeled for further posts and wedding updates, I’m sure there will be plenty and lots of big reveals on the way. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m off to plan for the big day and scour the net for some mini moon ideas. I’m thinking a City break for the three of us.

Lots of love,

Eleanor Paisley Ross – Through the lens. Week one.

I have chosen to share some of my favourite photographs of Eleanor in her first week as a newborn. I couldn’t wish for a better baby, what a little gem. Yes, she cries. Yes, I have had sleepless nights but that’s all part of the package and the fun. I couldn’t have wished for a more content baby girl. My little acorn.

I am completely smitten.

The first days ♥

Snuggles with Dad ♥

Precious sleepy moments – as rare as they may be! ♥
