My top five beauty picks for Winter.

Hello you lovely bunch. I’ve decided to do a post on some essentials I’ll be using this Winter. I have chosen to share my top FIVE picks with you lot. Now, don’t say I’m not kind.

Yes, it’s that time of year again. The days are long and dark, weather is cold, and the natural forces are ready to take their toll on our bodies. I love Winter and the whole Festive period, I can even deal with the darker days, what I don’t love about the Season is the condition it leaves my body in. That red raw, runny nose, chapped and sore lips, dry skin and dull hair. Sound familiar?

Well this year, I’m prepared. I won’t succumb to the cold. I’m ready to face it with some top products that I have been absolutely loving.

I have set out my top winter essentials that I use religiously each day and night with a little review of each product. I do hope you enjoy.

Simple hydrating moisturiser

I’m a big fan of the simple skin care range and always have been. It’s inexpensive and perfect the perfect match for my skin. As I have dry and sensitive skin I have to be careful with the products that I use.

Anything can bring me out in a rash or wash my skin out. I used to love Lush face masks and scrubs but my skin doesn’t take to them anymore and they bring me out it a sore rash. Especially since pregnancy, my skin has taken a turn for the worst, seldom products give me any protection without causing problems.

Trust me I’ve tried and tested a lot of products over the past year and Simple came out on top each time. Even beating the skin care professionals Clairns and Clinique!

All while being a great, kind to skin moisturising lotion it doesn’t break the bank either. Great if you are on a budget.

Simple is great and leaves my skin super hydrated with a dewy glow. Some days, I just slap on simple and a little concelor and I’m good to go. It’s hassle free and works wonders on my dry skin.

The body shop lip balm.
Born lippy

I used to be more of a lipstick gal and would wear anything from nudes to the most bold of brights. A MAC lipstick was my go to, I was forever rushing out on pay day to buy a new shade from the store. A purple lip was a night out essential.

I’ve recently toned down my look from day to day and now favor the more natural and dewy look for my lips without the need for lipsticks. Now that nights out have become a thing of the past, the bold colours have been stashed away.

I love the body shop and the range of lip balms which they have. Cruelty free too! The lip balms leave my lips super hydrated and protected not to mention that they smell good enough to eat and come in gorgeous packaging. You will catch the eye of others with one of these beauties. I’m not kidding.

I’m currently obsessed with the strawberry stick balm in the born lippy range. It has a slight pink tint to add a colour pop to the lips aswell as smelling delicious!!keeps lips hydrated perfectly for up to five hours without having to re apply. What more could you want?

Benefits Benetint (a classic)

I’ve favoured Benefit since I was around fifteen. The products are gorgeous and there is such a wide range. Something for everyone. Products are well worth the price tag as they last for such a long time. True classics.

During the Winter, I’ll be using my benetint for my cheeks and lips to give my face a little perk of rose. You can apply this in layers to build up from a light coverage to a bold red stain. Perfect for being on the move and taking you from day through to night as it’s quick and convenient to apply.

I love it and favour it all year round. Here’s to those party ready rosy cheeks and pouty lips this Winter.

L’Oréal Elvive hair serum

_20171108_144636.JPG

I find that the cold and harsh Winter days play havoc with my hair, especially having recently gone lighter, my hair needs a little extra protection to save it from drying out.

This serum is a God send, I use two drops morning and night and I’m good to go. It really makes my hair feel lighter, draws out any knots and adds a little shine. What’s not to love? In an instant I have super glossy locks.

Scent – Miu Miu

With a new Season comes a new scent.

I love this perfume by Miu Miu, it definitely comes with a price tag but it will last forever and in my opinion is worth the cost. All you need is a little spray and you are good to go. The scent hangs around all day long with no need to top up. Perfect not to mention easy convenience.

I’m loving this scent for Winter. It’s a little spicy and makes you feel super warm and cosy. The new Season calls  the time to mix up your perfume to something a bit darker and heavier than the sweet Summer scents of florals. I love floral and girly scents but with the darker days, I wanted something a little heavier. For me, this is the perfect go to. I have met my Winter match. Of course I have a few others on my hit list to buy. I’m looking out for a classic Chanel next. For the moment though, I’ll stick with this. What is your scent of the season?

I hope that you have enjoyed this post. I thought it would be useful to share some of my beauty picks for the Winter months. What are you using this Winter?

The jumpsuit edit.

Okay, as promised. I finally found the perfect jumpsuit for me. This took a few months of trolling online to get what I wanted. Nothing seemed to stand out. Not until I stumbled upon a black halter neck number on ASOS with flared bottoms and a relaxed fit. Petite in size, comfortable to wear with an soft and stretchy material that leaves room to breathe. Ah, perfect after a good Christmas feast. This jumpsuit is also very versatile. Making it so easy to dress up or down.

I’ve found THE jumpsuit and I’m not going back. I’ve been hunting high and low for one that would suit and fit me perfectly that I can wear a variety of ways. I wanted a piece that I could wear over and over again and wear it differently each time.

I didn’t want to splash a fortune for a jumpsuit and I didn’t want to buy several styles to get the looks that I required either. I wanted one jumpsuit that I can style in many ways and keep tucked away in my wardrobe for years to come. Not as easy to find something to fit the part as you would think. Especially with my petite 5ft 2 frame.

Seeing it online at only £25, I jumped at the chance to purchase my size before stock disappeared. I have to say, I was unsure of the quality I would receive as a garment.

When my order arrived, I wasn’t disappointed with this item. I’ve been spending time playing around and putting together different styles as Eleanor sleeps and have had so much fun with it already. It truly is a unique piece and a new wardrobe staple. You can wear this in so many ways and create different looks along the way. You can go all out glamorous with faux fur and glitter or you can wear it super simply and use it as an everyday item. There’s plenty of choice of how to wear this which can make it difficult to pick just one style!

The jumpsuit has the ability to give you the WOW factor, especially when teamed with lots of accessories and a strong lip colour, I think I will wear this with a plum lip.  It can also be a simple piece and can be covered up with plenty of layering and worn without no make up. Regardless how you wear it, it will stand out and give you that feel good confidence.

The material isn’t too tight and doesn’t cling to your skin. It leaves room to breathe and move around with ease. I think I might even wear this as a longe item, something I can wear as I roll around the floor playing with my baby and get through several nappy changes. It really is that comfortable.

Wear it to go shopping with a large slouchy jumper over the top and slips ons. Get glammd up for the evening and wear it alone with simple and delicate jewellery, or team it with bold and bright jewellery and a bold lip to match  to stand out that little bit more.

Whatever you decide, make sure you have fun playing around and getting it right for you!

Throw some jazzy boots on to give a pop of colour or add some height with sassy stiletto heels. Go walking with the dog with warm layers thrown over the top of this and some trainers.

The possibilities with the piece are endless and I will show you some of the looks that I have created. I’d have loved to had played around with make up and shown my style creations with the make up to match my looks but unfortunately, at home with a newborn alone leads for little time to play around with make up. In these posts, I am bare faced. My skin is naked. Had I had the time to play around with make up to show how I wear each look that I styled, I would have went all out.

For this particular occasion,  I’ve chose to dress the piece up. It was too fun not to, and as a new mum, the only chance I have to dress it is when I prance around the bedroom after catching five minutes alone. I think I’ll be taking this jumpsuit on its first outing when I have my first night out with my man post baby and I will be sure to dress this up as much as I can. I’ll be adding as much accessories as I can and going completely over the top. Can you tell I don’t get out much?

Simple and stylish, worn alongside with my go to old skool vans slip ons a a red beret for that colour burst.

Team with a corset belt and a faux fur shoulder bag for a slightly more flamed up look all while keeping it casual. Add a faux fur jacket over the top or team with a slouchy bomber jacket thrown on.

Go all out with the glamour. Dress it up with your favourite accessories, the bolder the better. Large gold hoops or bright tassle earrings, layer with plenty of necklaces of different lengths and styles, add a choker into the mix. Hide a bad hair day but still keep the glamour up with a stylish hat and throw on a faux fur stole or jacket to turn heads. You can dress this piece up with whatever accessories you choose.

_20171025_161556

A stiletto heel, a platform, chunky boots or delicate flats. I’ve chosen to style this with slip on flats as I prefer to be in flats than heels but if I am to go full glamour for a big event I’ll add a blocked heel or a glitter sandal to fit that part. It really doesn’t matter how you wear this, go with what works for you.

On this occasion I’ve went all out on the accessories and believe me, if my baby didn’t begin to wake and seek my full attention, I could have added even more jewellery and glitter. The more the merrier when it comes to accessories! That’s my mantra anyway. But remember, that’s me and accessories aren’t for everyone. If you don’t want to stand out, drop all of the accessories and wear it simply. A delicate necklace or a small pair of gold hoops still makes a great addition to the jumpsuit all while being extra subtle.

_20171025_162019.JPG

I have also teamed my jumpsuit with some layers to dress this down. I’ve teamed this with layers underneath but you could always throw a chunky knit over the top and on a super cold Winter day, even wrap a scarf or a faux fur snood around on top. The perfect dressed down look for a casual Sunday heading out for brunch.

With the addition of layers, I’d team it with a trainer on my feet to give a casual look. You could still dress the jumpsuit down with a band tee or polo neck and wear a block sandal. I particularly like this worn with a floral polo neck underneath. It looks super stylish and a polo neck is a great way to cover up and keep cosy in the Winter. All while keeping your look fresh and stylish. The polo neck I am wearing is from Zara and cost just £12.99. On a maternity wage right now, I’ll take all the bargains I can get. There are plenty bargains out there if you look for them so if you are on a budget, there is something out there for everyone.

I’ve found that when I teamed this piece with a band tee and a pink satin block strappy sandal it looked really cool and I really liked the look it gave off. Very rocker chic and perfect for going to a gig or having some drinks down the pub on a weekend afternoon.

The band tee I have teamed this with is Slaves and I purchased this t-shirt from their official website sometime last year. They have such cool styles online and I’ve worn this every other week. It’s become a staple of mine and actually, now I mention it, I’m off to go check out the site to see what is new. Yes, I do like and listen to Slaves before you judge me.

Winter style picks. What’s in your basket?

I have decided to write a short post surrounding Autumn/Winter and the pending festive season. Party season. I’ll be sharing with you my wardrobe staples for the season, style picks and giving a sneak peak of what’s in my basket.

As a new mum, I don’t think I will be able to participate with the festive parties, at least nothing crazy. However with a love for high street fashion and the glitz and glam of the festive period,  I will still attempt to look the part, with a baby slung over my shoulder. I’ll give it my best shot anyway. Who knows, I could start a trend for mum’s all around the world, right? Ahem..

Okay, I’ll get to it. Below I will list and talk through some of my style picks (only a few as I could and would go o. I hope that you enjoy, who knows.. you.. might even find some inspiration. I always find that I get my style inspired from trolling through endless Instagram accounts and social media platforms. I favor Nicole Richie as my celebrity top fashionista. Fashion is meant to be fun and I love to mix girly with an edge. Enjoy.

The Baker boy hat.

_20171012_172526

This is something that I have already purchased and I have to say, I’m never taking this hat off. I find it super stylish and it can dress any outfit up or down. I’ll be coordinating this hat with a variety of items. Dressed up and casual. It can do no wrong.

Statement trousers: Stripes, lace and flare galore.

_20171013_112620.JPG

Topshop are killing it with the trouser game right now. It was a tough call but I opted for these beauties in the end. Not particularly festive,(where’s the glitter)  but comfortable. These trousers are great for wrapping up under faux fur and teaming with trendy flats or a good boot. I think I’ll be teaming these with my trusty Dr. Martens and a bandeau top with a faux fur thrown over the top. For that grungy effect.

I’ve also been loving flares, something I always have to buy in petite due to my 5ft 2 frame, Topshop have a great range of petite flares in right now and I have already got my hands on the faux leather pair and a couple of fabric pairs for extra comfort. Great for lazy days, but also great for dressing up with a pretty top.

Satin picks.

I love satin, it’s so easy to wear. Again you can dress it up with a great heel or you can dress it down with a pair of jeans and flats. The fabric is so versatile and looks good on anyone. Anything goes with satin, just ensure you spray the deodorant post dressing otherwise you’ll make the same rookie mistake as I did and end up with wet deodorant patches. Not cool. Follow my Instagram to see how I team my satin pieces.

Leopard print.

Yep, it’s that time again. Leopard print gets me excited each year and I’m always on the hunt for the perfect leopard print faux fur. I’ve not yet got my hands on a staple leopard fur but I have my eyes on this number from ASOS which I think I might just have to treat myself to come pay day.

Vinyl.

It is a little trashy and a bit squeaky. It can make you look awkward, especially if like me, you aren’t a 6ft supermodel with the body of a God. However, I can’t stop. Faux leather and vinyl at this time of year has me crazy. I’ve invested into a few pairs of faux leather and vinyl look pants and recently purchased the topshop style vinyl Leggings. I’ll see how I get on with them. I’ll be squeaking my way around Aberdeen, with a little hope, they will make my bum look good! A gal can dream.

Sequins.

_20171013_112312.JPG

What is a festive period without a bit of glam? I love sequins. I just love them. You can dress them up or down. Team them with a heel, a mule, a boot. Hell, you can even team sequins with a trainer and still look the part. There’s so much fun to have with sequins and I could spend hours playing. I’ll be adding to my collection this season. There’s SO much out there, I can’t choose a select few key pieces at this time.

_20171013_113535.JPG

Finally, Accessories.

THE tassle earring.

Accessories really are a game changer aren’t they? They can make or break any outfit. They can take a simple outfit from drab to fab. You can have so much fun accessorizing and collaborating statement accessories with outfits.

Accessories are certainly big with the high street fashion game right now. Bold and strong earrings can be found in any high street store. Topshop, Zara, Accessorize, New Look. There is so much colour and choice available. There is something out there to suit everyone, especially if like me, you love a good accessorie. I find it can just help to make an outfit or key piece stand out just that little bit more. Going out but don’t want to over do it with your outfit? Get working with accessories!!

I’m loving these Topshop numbers in a variety of colour but green is definitely a strong favourite of mine and sitting pretty in my shopping basket.
